If you are reading this entry, please be sure to read the last two, especially the entry entitled What can you give?
Since Christmas, I have taken an intentional break from blogging. It isn't because I didn't want to write. It isn't because there was nothing to write about. It was because I suffer from what many of you suffer from. Misplaced priorities!
I sometimes become so busy just "doing" stuff that I miss "doing" what is most important. The break I took from blogging has been an attempt to assess the state of my life and priorities and work at putting things in the right order. This guy is a firm believer that we can be so consumed in doing stuff that we do a whole lot, but we do little if any of it very well. When we continue to take responsibility for things upon ourselves that are not a priority or part of our chief responsibility or what God has specifically called us to do, we end up causing a few problems:
- We fail to do what we're called to do with excellence
- We rob others of doing what they are good at; what they are called to do
- We do a lot and yet get little done
- We fail to honor God with the best, because we often have to do things giving to it what is left
Presently, I am easing back into blogging (so don't be fooled by or expect more days where there are three entries on just one day). The battle is daily to CHOOSE THE BEST. Do what I have been called to do. Do what matters. Refrain from getting bogged down in the things others can and should do. Delegate when needed and when necessary.
I guess I share this to explain why the silence since December. I guess I also share it because maybe you suffer in the same way.
As I close, I want to remind you of a truth that continues to free me in this area of my life. Most who know me would agree that I want things done well and done with excellence. However, it is often pride that causes us to jump into everything and do everything. After all, it won't get done like it should unless we do it, right? Furthermore, it is often our self-worth that is tied to our doings. We find value as a human being in doing things that people then in turn praise us for doing.
There is a truth that sets us free from both: God has called us to do specific tasks, but not everything. Even so, my worth before the God of the Universe has nothing to do with what I do. It has everything to do with who He is and that He created us in His image. He gives me my worth...not who I am in this world or what I do.
Take time to refocus. Take time to remember what your greatest responsibilities are and should be. Go all out right there!
