Doctors embolized the collateral vessel coming from the spleen that diverted the blood flow from the shunt. However, the shunt had once again clotted off and the doctors were not able to clear the clot. As of right now, the shunt is clotted and the problem we were seeking to fix had not been fixed. We have hopefully addressed the vessel that was causing the bleeding and vomiting of blood. Yet these episodes may return as pressure continues to be an issue as a result of the clot.
We do not know what steps, if any, will be taken next. There is concern and hesitancy from the doctors to go back in to try to open the shunt a third time. For now, we are holding. Micah seems to be stable, but the surgery did not accomplish what we anticipated or hoped. Though he isn't necessarily worse off, the problem of the increased pressure has not been solved.
Our focus remains on Micah's recovery. Then we will cross the bridge of what to do next. Perhaps until there is a noted concern or issue, we will merely not do anything.
And still...God is bigger! It is so easy to say that when we believe things are well and when sicknesses disappear, surgeries go well, marriages are saved, the unbeliever turns to Jesus Christ, and many other moments of great joy. But God is still bigger even in a time of disappointment and discouragement. We will trust Him even when we cannot understand the what or the why.
