Heyy everybody! I hope you are all doing well. So for this entire week we have been running a sports camp for kids at a small local church. Today was our third day doing this and we even had a few new kids. What has really excited me is the older kids who I didn't know if they would come back after the first day and they have been here every day, participating in the sports, singing the songs, and most importantly, listening to the Bible stories. And they've even brought friends which was great!
By far, the event that has impacted me the most was when we went to the Peoples' Park in the city of Berkley. This park was specifically designated by the city for the homeless to live in. We brought sandwiches, chips, bottled water, and tracts to the park to pass out. We broke up into groups and went to different areas of the park. My group went to a corner with a particularly rough crowd but they were so grateful for the food and drinks, and many looked at the tracts as we walked away. We got into some good conversations with several intelligent guys. One young man had read the Bible seven times in three different languages. At first he said that Christianity was not really for him but he was impressed by our decision to act out on our faith and come on this trip.
So far this has been a really exciting, challenging, and fun trip. I can't wait to see what else God has planned for us! ~ Kayla
