It almost feels like it has been half a year since Micah was last in the hospital. In reality, it's been 9 weeks (or close to it). Micah has had his longest stretch of time at home without a hospital stay and the longest time without a doctor visit (we got to get labs drawn from home for about 4 weeks).
Yesterday I met Sarah, Ethan and Micah at Chick-fil-a for lunch. Normally Micah eats nothing but what most would call "junk food." His diet consists of mostly Pop-Tarts, Cheetos, Pretzels, Chips, and so forth. His favorite...M & Ms. But the chocolate will keep him awake all night if he eats too many. Yesterday at lunch, Micah looked at my chicken and said, "I bite, Daddy." Usually, if he does say that, once you place it up to his mouth he pulls away and will often gag. Yesterday, he took a bite...followed by another...then another...and another... We were thrilled. One of our prayers recently was that God would increase his appetite and help Micah to begin eating more foods and better foods.
Tonight at dinner, he did the same thing. Sarah was serving lasagna to Isaac, Ethan and me when Micah said, "I want some, Mommy." She placed some on his plate (as he sternly called for his Elmo spoon) and I cut it up for him. He took a bite...followed by another...then another...then another. It was incredible. We stopped to pray, again (because you cannot pray too much), to give thanks for God's mighty work in what many would consider such a small (often overlooked) thing.
Isaac and Ethan continue to do well. Ethan started preschool this year and seems like an old pro at it. Isaac is in a 5-year old transitions class and loves it. Sarah seems more rested than ever before, though I do not want to imply she is in any way lazy nor not fatigued easily with caring for our wild bunch that stays on the go. She is my great helper whom I greatly love.
Thank you for continuing to pray. Thank you to those who are actually reading this since you apparently come by to check much more often than I have been updating. Thank you! And may what the Lord has been doing in our lives and in Micah's life specifically encourage you and lead you to give praise to the Lord today.
