Home Again...Eating Steak

The call came in at 1:06 PM today.  Micah was discharged from the hospital today to continue recovering at home.

Yesterday he had an endoscopy that didn't show any enlarged vessels in the stomach or esophagus that would indicate a risk of bleeding (and causing episodes of vomiting blood). Based on this report, the doctors were comfortable releasing him and we will simply monitor any recurrence of these vessels every six months.  Should they recur, we will likely then need to have Micah undergo the surgery to remove the spleen and all vessels.

For now, however, Micah is home.  As we prepared to come home, I asked Micah what he wanted to eat.  The answer was quick and short: "Steak!"  So steak it is tonight.  I am grateful to God that Micah is home and all our family will be together under the same roof tonight.

One other funny story from yesterday to share.  Following surgeries and procedures, if Micah is allowed to eat afterwards, we have a routine.  He drinks apple juice, then moves to eating Cheetos, and then follows that with some peanut M & Ms.  Yesterday he awoke from the endoscopy and began drinking apple juice.  He then sat in my lap while Sarah began handing him Cheetos one at a time.  He had not eaten since 9:00 PM the night before and this was now 4:00 PM the next day.  I thought he might actually eat a finger in the process he was chomping so hard and fast.

Finally, a little frustrated apparently, Micah says to Sarah, "Just give me the bag, Mom!"  I think he's feeling remarkably better, even though he's not quite back to normal.

As always and with sincere gratitude, thank you for praying.  Jesus is our shelter, hope and strength.  He is enough and we praise His sustaining power and grace.
