Another Surgery Finished

I stood with Micah at the check-in desk on the third floor of the Duke Children's Hospital again today.  An all-too-familiar place for us I'm afraid.  We have stood there so many times before to check Micah in for  another surgery/procedure.

When the check-in attendant mentioned Micah's medical ID bracelet, he immediately, without prompting, stuck his arm out.  He knows the drill. (Just like he knows where the blood pressure cuff goes, the thermometer probe goes, and many other things.) The attendant then said, "Aww! You're having surgery today.  Have you had surgery before?" I responded, "We've actually lost count of the number of procedures and surgeries." The lady and her daughter behind me who were waiting to check in immediately spoke up saying, "I know what you mean."

As I think about this, I find myself truly unable to say how many surgeries Micah's had.  I cannot even list them for you at this point.  Today was another surgery finished.  But one thing I haven't forgotten:

In every surgery, big and small, our Lord Jesus has been faithful through them all.

Today, once again, God was faithful.  Some surgeries have gone smooth like today's.  Others have had complications, like the last major surgery.  But God has given grace upon grace.

Right now, Micah and I are in the PICU at Duke where he arrived at 8:30 PM just after surgery finished.  Surgery was delayed from 11:45 AM to 3:00 PM.  The surgery went well and Micah is currently resting. His first thing he said to me with a whisper, "Dad, I'm hungry." He then later told me that he was going to wake up before me in the morning.  I think that pain medication is making him feel real good.

Tomorrow we hope to depart the PICU and head to a room on the floor.  We anticipate being here no less than 5 days and likely 7 to 10 depending on how well he does. We are just hoping to get to catch the NC State versus Tennessee football game this Friday on television. Just another Buchanan party in the hospital to go with celebrating two of Micah's birthdays and two Christmas times here.

I am grateful to so many who have prayed for Micah through yet another surgery.  Thank you for praying for him, Isaac and Ethan, Sarah, our parents and family, and me.

God is good, all the time. Glad to hear the smoothness of it all. Too bad you will be disappointed Friday night when State whips up on your orangey boys!
