One main reason for writing
Guys and Lies was the inability to find any material like this. Nancy Leigh DeMoss and Dannah Gresh wrote the book
Lies Young Women Believe which addresses the Deceiver and the deceptive tales he tells to young women. There are a number of books for young men on specific issues or lies (i.e.,
Every Young Man's Battle). But there was no book that looked at some common lies the enemy tells and the culture perpetuates in the ears of young men.
In spite of that fact, there is a great, and brief, book written for young men that serves as a great companion to
Guys and Lies. The title of the work is
Thoughts for Young Men by J.C. Ryle. In fact, I quote Ryle a

number of times in the book. Ryle died in 1900 yet his words in
Thoughts for Young Men are amazingly fresh and applicable for today. He last revised this particular book of his when he was 71 years old. He was the father of 5 including three sons.
He writes at one place in the book these words:
"[The Enemy] will tell you at the beginning of your lives, it is too soon to serve God--he will tell you at the end, it is too late. Oh, be not deceived!" (p.14)
I highly recommend this work for young men. Over the years I have bought a number of copies to give to teenager men and young adult men. You can actually find the work online
