"But you will be My witnesses..." (Acts 1:8).
Our San Francisco Bay Mission Team arrived on Saturday and got settled. We have gone non-stop from the time we got here.
Yesterday we arrived, ate lunch, checked into the motel and then met Tim Fortescue, the church planter we are working with this week. We spent the next few hours assembling pack backs for an Afghan outreach in the park. The back packs were filled with school supplies for children for school this next year.
Today our day began with some time at Osman and Marina's home. Osman is an Afghan man who came to follow Jesus through Tim's interaction and witness to him. His wife is still not a believer. However, we had some great time in their home this morning.
The young ladies on our team interacted a good bit with the two children: Sabrina (almost 6) and Habib (4). The young men assisted Osman with some yard work (pruning trees, trimming grass, sweeping, picking lemons and prunes). Sarah had an incredible opportunity to connect with Marina who is about our age and not a believer. Tim actually indicated that today was one of the first times Marina had actually connected with any of the groups or individuals who have worked with him and interacted with this family.
After lunch we attended a Karen Worship Service in San Leandro. This is a people group from Burma who have come here as a result of religious persecution. Some of our students had the opportunity to work with the children teaching Bible verses and songs in English. Following this church service, we traveled back to Fremont to a park for the Afghan outreach.
At the park, our team played soccer, ultimate Frisbee and tug-of-war with the Afghan teenagers and young adults. We also ate with them and distributed the back packs we had assembled yesterday.
It has been busy. But as always, we have been blessed. And what a privilege to be able to be witnesses of Jesus Christ.
We'll try to keep you updated daily...as well as have some of the students share their experiences and how God is working in and through them. Until next time...
