Try, Try Again

This update will be fairly brief. Besides the fact that we spent all day at the hospital, it's almost 11:30 PM, I am tired, and tomorrow we will start all over again. I hope you don't mind if I skip some details.

Today Micah was scheduled for a surgical procedure to place a catheter right at the site of the clot in the portal vein. After about 4 hours, the procedure was not finished. It ended up that the doctor tried for 2 hours to get into the portal vein and could not. At that time, he believed it would be dangerous to continue trying for today. There then arose the question as to whether the obstruction of blood flow was related to a blood clot or whether it might be related to the actual mechanics of the vein (i.e., the connection at this site from transplant or possibly that the vein had twisted and caused the occlusion).

A CT Scan was performed that seems to definitively reaffirm that it is in fact a blood clot. Therefore, the decision was made to try again tomorrow. At some time in the morning, possibly between 8:00 and 9:00 AM, Micah will be taken to try this procedure again. Our hope and prayer is that the doctor is able to place the catheter and the medicine breaks up the blood clot with no complications.

In the meantime, Micah is still sedated and intubated. He was resting in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit when Sarah and I left at about 10:00 PM. If you are reading this on Tuesday, we certainly ask for your fervent prayer that the Lord will allow what needs to happen to happen. Please lift up Micah that he will do well and the doctors that God will guide them and give wisdom to them.

I also want to ask for you to pray for a young couple and their daughter whom Sarah and I met today and prayed with a couple different times during the day. Haley is a 10 day old baby girl who was born with heart problems. Surgery was done to try to correct the problems with the valves of her heart. However, tonight, just before we left, Keith and Stephanie were told that their daughter was being put back on the heart and lung machine(s). The surgeon had been called in to do some emergency procedures to hopefully help Haley. But Keith and Stephanie were told Haley had a 50/50 chance. PLEASE pray for them as well.

Thank you for praying. I hope to update tomorrow with good news regarding Micah's procedure.

Justin and Sarah,

As I meet with my creator every morning I lift Micah up in prayer. As my little brother in christ it is disheartening sometimes for those prayers to seemingly go unheard even though I know it isnt the case. I just wanted you to know that we are continuing to pray for Micah and the entire Buchanan family. Our GOD is an awesome GOD and nothing is impossible through him.
